GUWAHATI, November 3: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Manipur by the end of November as the party steps up preparations for the 2027 Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.
A senior Manipur Congress leader said on Tuesday that the proposed visit was discussed during a recent meeting between the state Congress leadership and the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership in New Delhi.
The meeting reviewed the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur, continuing violence and insecurity, and the challenges in restoring lasting peace and normalcy in the state.
The discussions also focused on the Congress party’s preparations for the forthcoming Assembly elections and its electoral strategy.
The meeting was chaired by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. AICC in-charge of Manipur Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka and other senior party leaders attended the meeting. Former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was among the state Congress leaders present.
The Congress leadership also discussed the political situation in the state and the party’s strategy ahead of the next Assembly elections.
The next Manipur Legislative Assembly elections are expected to be held in February–March 2027. Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit is likely to be part of the party’s efforts to assess the ground situation and strengthen its organisational preparedness ahead of the polls.
However, the exact date and schedule of his proposed visit have not yet been announced.
