CJP Activists Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka Released by Delhi Court

New Delhi: CJP activists Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have been released by an Executive Magistrate court in Delhi following their preventive arrests in connection with the protests held in the national capital on October 10.

Ratna Singh, head of legal affairs at Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), confirmed their release in a post on X. Advocate Soutik Banerjee also confirmed that the three activists had been released and were free to leave.

The CJP activists released development comes amid heightened security, mass detentions and a political confrontation in Delhi over a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

CJP Activists Released After Preventive Arrests

According to the ANI report, the three activists were produced before an Executive Magistrate at Delhi Cantt Police Station after being taken into preventive custody.

Dipke had travelled from Mumbai to Delhi to participate in the protest. In a video posted on Instagram on October 10, he alleged that police personnel entered the aircraft after it landed at Delhi Airport and attempted to detain him and his associates.

In the video, Dipke questioned the police action and described the planned demonstration as a peaceful protest. His statements represent his allegations about the incident.

The release was subsequently confirmed by CJP’s legal affairs head and advocate Soutik Banerjee.

Delhi Police Registers Over 20 FIRs

Delhi Police said it had registered more than 20 first information reports (FIRs) in connection with attempts to stage a protest on October 10. According to the police, the cases involve allegations related to disturbing public order, obstructing government work and assaulting police personnel.

Police also said that four people had been detained in connection with the matter.

The ANI report referred to a video circulated on social media showing four people allegedly assaulting protesters near the Civic Centre. The allegations in the police cases remain subject to the legal process.

The preventive arrests and subsequent release of the three CJP activists took place against the backdrop of the wider security arrangements and police action surrounding the protest.

Court Rejects Application Seeking Action Against Police

Earlier on Saturday, a Delhi court dismissed an application filed on behalf of Ratna Singh seeking the registration of an FIR or a non-cognisable report against police personnel.

According to the ANI report, the court held that the application was not maintainable because it was not supported by an appropriate affidavit and did not identify a specific public servant against whom the allegations had been made.

The application alleged that Singh had been wrongfully confined and prevented from attending the October 10 protest. It also sought a direction for the submission of a status report.

The court’s decision concerned the maintainability of the application; it should not be interpreted as a general finding on every allegation relating to the police action.

Protest Demanded Chief Election Commissioner’s Resignation

The protest at Jantar Mantar called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration led to a major police deployment and detentions across the national capital.

According to the ANI report, around 1,000 people were detained in Delhi during the day’s developments. Those named among the detainees included Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee.

The episode triggered a wider political confrontation over the protest and the police response.

The release of Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka marks a further development in the events surrounding the demonstration. The circumstances of the arrests, the allegations made by the activists and the police cases remain distinct issues that must be assessed on the basis of the relevant records and proceedings.
