EasternLens – Your Window to Northeast India

EasternLens is committed to responsible, accurate, fair and independent journalism. Our editorial principles guide the gathering, verification, production and publication of news, reports, features and other content.

1. Accuracy and Verification

We strive to ensure that all published information is accurate and reliable. Our journalists and contributors are expected to verify facts, check sources and make reasonable efforts to confirm information before publication. Unverified claims will not be presented as established facts.

2. Fairness and Impartiality

EasternLens aims to present news fairly and without deliberate bias. We seek relevant perspectives from individuals and organisations involved in a matter, particularly when allegations or disputed claims are reported.

3. Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of political, commercial or personal interests. Advertisers, sponsors and other external parties must not improperly influence our news coverage or editorial judgement.

4. Respect for Privacy and Human Dignity

We respect individual privacy and human dignity. Personal information, photographs and other sensitive material will be handled responsibly, with due consideration for public interest and potential harm.

5. Responsible Reporting

We exercise particular care when reporting on children, victims of crime, vulnerable individuals, communal tensions, disasters and other sensitive subjects. Our reporting should not unnecessarily encourage hatred, discrimination, violence or public panic.

6. Sources and Attribution

We aim to identify sources clearly whenever appropriate and acknowledge information, quotations, photographs and other material obtained from third parties. Confidential sources may be protected where there is a legitimate journalistic reason to do so.

7. Photographs, Videos and Digital Content

Images, videos, captions and headlines must not deliberately mislead readers. Edited or illustrative material should not be presented in a way that falsely represents an actual event. The use of artificial intelligence and digital tools must not compromise factual accuracy or mislead audiences.

8. Corrections and Updates

If a published report contains a material error, EasternLens will review the matter and make appropriate corrections or updates as soon as reasonably practicable. Readers may contact our editorial team to report errors or raise concerns.

9. Conflicts of Interest

Journalists and contributors should disclose relevant conflicts of interest and avoid situations that could compromise their independence, credibility or professional judgement.

10. Reader Feedback and Accountability

We value feedback from readers and take credible complaints about our content seriously. Concerns regarding accuracy, fairness or editorial conduct may be sent to our editorial team through the Contact Us page.

Our Commitment

EasternLens seeks to serve readers through credible journalism, regional perspectives and responsible reporting on Northeast India and matters of public interest. We are committed to improving our editorial practices and maintaining public trust.
