The initiative seeks to make environmental protection part of everyday life by encouraging individuals and communities to adopt simple but meaningful changes in their daily activities.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the campaign draws inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which promotes environmentally conscious choices and sustainable practices.

Highlighting Manipur’s rich biodiversity and natural resources, including its forests, rivers and wetlands, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of protecting the state’s ecological heritage for future generations.

He said environmental conservation should not be viewed solely as the responsibility of the government. Instead, every citizen must contribute towards safeguarding nature through responsible everyday practices.

The Chief Minister particularly urged young people to take an active role in the campaign. He called upon citizens to conserve water and electricity, avoid single-use plastics, minimise waste and maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.

He also appealed to government departments, educational institutions, local bodies and community organisations to participate actively in the weeklong initiative and help spread awareness about sustainable living.

As part of the launch programme, Singh administered an environmental protection pledge to those present. He also joined other dignitaries in planting saplings at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, reinforcing the campaign’s message of collective responsibility towards nature.

Focus on Sustainable Living and Environmental Awareness

The BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week 2026 is expected to serve as a platform for encouraging people to rethink their everyday consumption patterns and adopt practices that reduce environmental impact.

Through activities such as public awareness campaigns, resource conservation and community participation, the initiative aims to strengthen the idea that protecting the environment begins with individual responsibility.

With the campaign scheduled to continue until November 7, the Manipur government has called for wider participation from different sections of society to promote a culture of sustainable living across the state.
