Biswanath minors rescued case, two persons arrested by police

BISWANATH, November 5: Police have arrested two persons for allegedly luring four minors from Assam’s Biswanath district to Guwahati through social media by offering them various inducements. The rescued children include three girls and one boy, all of whom are minors.

Biswanath Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashif Ahmed shared the details with the media. He said police had received a complaint at Behali Police Station stating that several children had left their homes without informing their families and travelled to Guwahati.

Following the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. A police team was subsequently sent to Guwahati, where the city police extended assistance to the operation. The team successfully rescued all four children.

Social Media Contact and Job Offers Under Investigation

According to SSP Ashif Ahmed, the investigation revealed that the children had been in contact with a youth named Adam Tani, a resident of Lakhimpur. He allegedly lured them with various inducements and persuaded them to leave their homes.

Police initially apprehended Adam Tani. During the subsequent investigation, officers suspected the involvement of another person in the case. Accordingly, another youth, identified as Bikash Morang, also from Lakhimpur, was arrested.

The SSP said the accused had allegedly promised the children jobs at an NGO involved in childcare. However, police are investigating the authenticity of the offer, the identity of the NGO and whether any other persons were involved in the matter.

All Four Rescued Children Are Minors

SSP Ashif Ahmed clarified that all four rescued children are minors. He said the investigation is being conducted with particular attention to child protection and the legal provisions applicable to cases involving minors.

Police are also examining how the children were contacted through social media, how phone numbers were exchanged and whether any other individuals were involved in the alleged operation.

Police Appeal for Responsible Use of Social Media

Following the incident, Biswanath Police have urged parents and young people to remain alert while using social media.

SSP Ashif Ahmed said social media has both positive and negative aspects, and users should make responsible use of the platform while staying away from its harmful aspects.

He also said police are conducting awareness campaigns to prevent such crimes. The campaign will continue until such offences are brought under control.

Although all four minors have been rescued and two persons arrested, the investigation remains ongoing. Police are continuing to examine whether other individuals or a wider network were involved in the case.
