GUWAHATI, November 5: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, has called for intensifying the ongoing total shutdown in Kangpokpi district for another 48 hours, from 5 pm on November 4 to 5 pm on November 6.
A statement issued by CoTU, a Kuki civil body in Kangpokpi, said that the intensified shutdown would take effect from 5 pm on November 4. It added that all markets, offices, educational institutions and public transport would remain closed throughout the period, calling for a complete halt to all activities.
It may be mentioned here that the committee had initially called the shutdown following the abduction and subsequent killing of two Kuki-Zo youths, Tinginlun Chongloi and Paoginlal Hangsing, whose bodies were recovered on November 1.
The Kuki civil body has been demanding decisive government action and justice for the victims.
No Exemptions During Shutdown
In a public notice, CoTU reiterated that the intensified shutdown would be observed with zero tolerance and no exemptions. The notice stated that all markets, offices, educational institutions and public transport services must remain closed during the 48-hour period, with a complete halt to all activities in the district.
The shutdown is scheduled to continue until 5 pm on November 6.
